If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring the region that forms the “heel” of the Italian “boot.”, we invite you to visit Puglia on a bike tour. Here, you will get to bike through lush olive orchards and vineyards as well as travel along the rugged coastline, white sand beaches and deep blue adriatic aea. Last but not least, you will also get to uncover some of the region most beautiful towns such as the whitewashed town of Ostuni and the carved town of Matera Join us and discover the natural beauty and delicious cuisine of Apulia!

Day 1 Highlights 

  • Start your journey in Ostuni (commonly referred to as “the White Town” (“La Città Bianca”, in Italian). In the hitoric center of town don’t miss out on the “Porto assura”, the most photograph door in Osutni.

  • Cycle through the itria valley, featuring a large amount of olive groves, vineyards and trulli, the typical ancient houses in the region.

Day 2 Highlights 

  • Get on your bike and ride to Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its whitewashed trulli houses, an architectural symbol of Puglia. Discover the quarters of rione monti and aia piccola with a local guide.
  • Pedal through the historic villages of Noci and Conversano, where cobbled streets, ancient churches, and traditional piazzas reflect the region’s rich heritage.

  • Cycle past ancient olive groves and traditional masserias, experiencing Puglia’s agricultural landscapes, where centuries-old trees and rustic farmsteads define the countryside.

      Day 3 Highlights 

      • Pedal through the Basilicata region, where Matera’s dramatic rock-hewn churches and stone-carved homes create a labyrinth of history and culture.
      • Cycle to the town of Matera, a UNESCO-listed city and one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world, where history is carved into stone.
      • Explore the Sassi di Matera, an intricate network of ancient cave dwellings, sculpted into limestone cliffs and inhabited for thousands of years with a local guide.

            Day 4 Highlights 

            • Pedal past Gioa del Colle, a town famous for its Fior di latte mozzarella and its Gioia del Colle Primitivo wine. Did you know ? Sylvester Stalone father was born in Gioia del Colle before emigrating to the United States.

            Day 5 Highlights 

            • Cycle across the Murgia Plateau, where rugged limestone landscapes and prehistoric caves define the scenery.
            Join the Bari to Monopoli cycling route:
            • Explore pogliano a mare, a costal town perched on limestone cliffs, 20 meter above the adriatic sea.

             During the sixteenth century it served as a watchtower against the raids of Ottoman and Saracen Turks, and has now been converted into a refined, luxury 5-star resort. Local traditional hospitality, once extended to pilgrims and Benedictine monks, is now offered to our guests. The hotel has 28 rooms all with cool whitewashed walls, large beds, satin sheets, gilded lamps and small grassy terraces.

            Daniele Kihlgren restored the decaying, abandoned ancient caves. His father was a Swedish diplomat who married a wealthy Italian from Bergamo (northern Italy) whose family was in the cement business and made a lot of money. He was traveling on his motorbike one day in southern Italy when he fell in love with Matera.  He struck an unprecedented deal with the local authority: in return for a guarantee of inedificabilita – a blanket ban on new building – he promised to invest serious quantities of money in bringing it back to life. Five years after he first set eyes on the village, and after an investment of €4.5m, Sextantio le Grotte received its first clients.
